Unfortunately, China’s government is not granting women’s ability to achieve their goals. On March 8, International Women’s Day, police detained five women’s rights activists planning an action to raise awareness about sexual harassment on public transportation. China has taken huge steps backwards with the status of women, the wage gap has widened, over half of the universities restrict the number of women they admit, highly educated women are mocked, and many businesses openly recruit only men. Chinese family norms promote the unity of the family while placing women in a less superior and uneducated spot “The traditional culture requires obedience to a father and then to a husband and sons. The traditional family proscribes women’s role as housekeeper, and the value of this activity is considered lower than male work outside the household” China has formulated and implemented laws, regulations and policy outlines to ensure that women share equal political rights with men. China is trying to make a difference in women’s empowerment. In 2015 China and UN Women co-hosted the Global Leaders Meeting on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment at the UN Headquarters. UN Women is the UN organization dedicated to gender equality and empowerment of women. “This meeting will give Member States a powerful impetus to implement Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and to achieve the goals on gender equality in the Post-2015 Development Agenda. We look forward to the participation of world leaders, where they would make further commitments for the promotion of gender equality and women’s empowerment” China’s main focus at this meeting was prioritized the effort to promote equal rights of women in education, health, and employment. UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide. Mainly China so that the country can move past the old ways of treating woman.Older Chinese generations were teacher that they are more superior than women. In modern China, they are teaching and promoting new generations equality within education.”The gender gap in education has been markedly narrowed. The state implements the Compulsory Education Law of the People’s Republic of China and other relevant laws, regulations, and policies, and takes practical measures to improve women’s education. It has implemented a special policy to ensure school-age girls enjoy equal access to compulsory education”. Because older generations are not very fond of equality they are teaching new generations hoping that this problem of male superiority over female is not a continuing problem for the upcoming years in modern China. China’s old ways of living were very observed and disrespectful towards women. As China is starting to develop more as a country and is starting to realize that women shouldn’t be treated this way, they have been making a small effort to change these old ways of living in china. Such as implementing laws and educating people on these problems and how that they can be avoided.
