The Federalist 10 paper
objectively addresses the issue of governance and attempts to shed light on
matters power factions that were prevalent at that time. During that time, many
people were competing for power and the politics surrounded the personal interests
of many people in the government. Therefore, the author opined that a
democratic state was the only answer to the self-interests showcased by those
in the government (Epstein, 1993). The factions were a threat to the very
foundation of the United States and discouraged any prospects of statesmanship
from those in the government. According to the author, acts of corruption,
injustice, and self-interest were at the very core of the failure of many governments.
Even though the American Constitution was quite admirable, it did not shelter
the government from the numerous complaints by its citizens (Epstein, 1993). They
took note of the unstable nature of the government and complained about the
lack of any regard for the rights of minor parties. Most citizens opined that
the government and the behavior of the majority party failed to embody the
constitutional foundations that were supposed to be part of a great country. Hence,
Federalist Paper10 illuminated these issues and opined that the citizens had
lost trust in public governance because it reflected the private interests of
its members (Epstein, 1993). The injustice showcased in pursuit of power were
aspects that the author warned would tear the American government apart. Hence
federalist 10 proposed ways of destroying faction, one of which was to abide by
the opinions of the citizens. After all, public administration was premised on
the service that governments render to their citizens (Epstein, 1993). The
author was proposing a democracy as part of the solution to eliminate
self-interest since all the focus would be on the citizens. The author also
proposed the elimination of liberty as an end towards power struggles and
self-interests (Epstein, 1993). Liberty in this case also denoted the
elimination of the power that the majority had and distributing it equally.
